224 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, further to parliamentary Question No. 200 of 7 June 2000 concerning a swimming pool for Lucan, County Dublin, a grant application has yet been received from South Dublin County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There has been no change in the position outlined on 7 June last. As stated on that occasion, my Department has received a copy of an interim report on a water leisure strategy prepared for South Dublin County Council, but it has not received a grant application in relation to the provision of a swimming pool in Lucan.
225 Mr. U. Burke asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will provide a grant for the provision of a swimming pool at Loughrea, County Galway, to the local swimming pool committee who have raised substantial funding and have provided a suitable site and are awaiting sanction and approval of their application; if he will indicate a time-scale for this project. Burke asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will provide a grant for the provision of a swimming pool to Loughrea Swimming Pool Committee who have provided a site and have made a substantial effort to raise funds locally; and if he will make a statement as to his willingness to assist the project. I propose to take Questions Nos. 225 and 226 together.
The proposal for a swimming pool in Loughrea is one of ten new pool proposals from local authorities currently with my Department. Contact will be made with the relevant local authorities shortly to establish the up to date position with each proposal, including up to date costings etc. All proposals will then be re-examined with a view to identifying those which will be supported under the local authorities swimming pool programme 2000.
