Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - EU Directives.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

268 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the number of European Communities directives applicable to Ireland; the number for which implementing measures have been reported to the European Commission; the comparative position of Ireland in relation to the other member states; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [19532/00]

On 31 December last, there were 1499 directives applicable to Ireland. Implementing measures in respect of 1411 had been notified to the Commission by that date. At the end of 1999, Ireland was 11th in the list of member states ranked by percentage of applicable directives whose implementation had been notified.

In this matter, I would draw the Deputy's attention to the very comprehensive statistics available in the Seventeenth Annual Report on Monitoring the Application of Community Law (1999), issued by the Commission on 23 June this year under reference COM (2000) 92 final.
