Vol. 523 No. 1

Written Answers. - Pension Provisions.

Michael Noonan

Ceist:

805 Mr. Noonan asked the Minister for Social, Community and Family Affairs if the new half rate pre-1953 old age pension payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Limerick; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [20708/00]

The person concerned has recently been awarded the special half-rate old age contributory pension, introduced for persons who entered into insurable employment before 1953. The pension is payable at the rate of £48 per week with effect from 5 May 2000, that is, the date from which the pension was introduced. A book of payable orders, payable from 4 August 2000, will be issued shortly to his nominated post office, for collection by him. Arrears of pension for the period 5 May 2000 to 3 August 2000 will issue in the next two weeks.
