109 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage Gaeltacht and the Islands the proposals she has received from the management of the National Museum regarding extended opening hours of the museum in view of the question of opening on bank holiday Mondays; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm to the Deputy that I have indeed received proposals from the National Museum regarding extended opening hours of the museum.
As I indicated in a reply to a previous parliamentary question on this matter, the extension of the existing opening hours by the National Museum carries major financial and staffing implications. These matters are under consideration by my Department at present and a final decision will be made at the earliest possible date, having regard to the resources available in this regard.
