104 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education and Science if he has had considerations made into the options for assessment for the new physical education subject at leaving certificate level; the way in which he will implement the option decided on; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The National Council for Curriculum and Assessment has prepared three draft syllabi for physical education at second level. These embrace junior cycle, senior cycle and the Leaving Certificate syllabus. The latter syllabus is designed for those students who choose to study the subject for examination at leaving certificate.
The NCCA is, at present, consulting the relevant interest groups on the content of the draft syllabi, including the options for assessment. Following this consultation process the revised syllabi will be submitted by the NCCA to me for approval.
