Vol. 524 No. 1

Business of Dáil.

On a point of order, I want to raise a matter while the Tánaiste is present in the House. On Tuesday morning I sought time to discuss the deteriorating situation in the Middle East. Tragically, full scale war has now broken out.

That is not an appropriate matter to raise on a point of order. I suggest the Deputy calls to the Ceann Comhairle's office or consults the Whips on the matter. The Chair has no choice but to move on to information appertaining to Adjournment debates.

I have been informed by the Whips office that it is proposed to debate this matter this day week. However, by this day week there will be an enormous loss of life on all sides.

That is not appropriate at this time. We must move on.

I want to ask the Tánaiste a question.

I will not allow the Tánaiste an opportunity to reply so it is unfair for the Deputy to continue with his question.

It fills me with deep disappointment that a member of the UN Security Council is not able to discuss this important matter.

I suggest the Deputy calls to the Ceann Comhairle's office or consults the Whips. We must move on to information appertaining to Adjournment debates.

On a point of order, surely if the conflict in the Middle East has escalated to full scale war, it would be appropriate—

The Deputy is becoming disorderly. I have already ruled on the matter. The Deputies know it is not appropriate to raise the issue in this fashion.

I do not want to disrupt the House.

As I have pointed out, I will not allow a debate on this issue. The Deputy is being disorderly.

I do not mean to be disorderly.

The Chair was moving on to information appertaining to Adjournments. The Chair is entitled to respect and to be allowed to continue with the business of the House.

I apologise.
