Vol. 524 No. 3

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Ceist:

181 Dr. Upton asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the assistance which is available to a group (details supplied) for repairs to its sports hall. [22697/00]

One of the main aims of the sports capital programme in my Department is to assist voluntary and community organisations with the development of appropriate facilities for an integrated and planned approach to sports and recreation, with priority for designated disadvantaged areas.

I intend to announce the 2001 sports capital programme in December at which time it will be open to all organisations to apply for an application form and a copy of the guidelines, terms and conditions for funding.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

182 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he will consider further funding a sports club (details supplied) in County Wexford which has been unable to obtain full funding to complete its project, having been approved for funding early this year and done considerable fund raising; and if the club will be considered for further grant aid. [22698/00]

This organisation was allocated a grant of £35,000 in the 1999 sports capital programme and has received £33,250 of that grant to date.

Following the public advertising of the sports capital programme for 2000, in excess of 1,600 applications were received, including an application in respect of equipment, from the organisation in question. All of the applications were assessed in accordance with the assessment criteria outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions governing the programme. Following this assessment, allocations were made to approximately 650 organisations.

I am deferring consideration of applications from boxing clubs under the 2000 programme until issues still outstanding between the Irish Amateur Boxing Association and the Irish Sports Council relating to the anti-doping in sport programme have been resolved.
