Vol. 524 No. 4

Written Answers. - Good Friday Agreement.

Ceist:

130 Mr. Hayes asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of times he has met his ministerial counterpart in Northern Ireland since the introduction of the Good Friday Agreement to discuss security related matters between both jurisdictions; the level of co-operation which exists between the RUC and the Garda Síochána on matters that affect security; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [22744/00]

I have had continuing contact with the British Home Secretary and the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland on security related matters since the introduction of the Good Friday Agreement. In fact, I am today meeting with Secretary of State Mandelson to discuss security related matters.

There is extensive co-operation between the Garda Síochána and the RUC on security matters and the Garda Commissioner will be attending today's meeting as will the Chief Constable of the RUC.
