Vol. 524 No. 4

Written Answers. - Irish Language.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

154 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education and Science if the regulations concerning exemptions from the study of Irish will be reviewed and expanded; and if the request for such an exemption from a person (details supplied) in County Cork will be reconsidered. [22823/00]

The issues raised by the Deputy are currently under consideration in my Department.

As the student referred to by the Deputy does not meet the requirements of the particular rule outlined in the rules and programme for secondary schools, an exemption from the study of Irish cannot be granted in this case.
