Vol. 524 No. 4

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Gay Mitchell. I call on Deputy Mitchell to state the matter of which he has given notice to me.

I wish to give notice of my intention to seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss an urgent matter of public concern, namely, the need to find secure places of detention for youths in danger, the failure of the Government to do so despite several warnings from a judge, the need to find and accommodate a particular child who is in danger and to ensure she receives secure and multi-disciplinary support, and the threats to hold three members of the Government in contempt of court for failing to meet their obligations in this regard.

Having considered the matter fully, I do not consider it to be one contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.
