Vol. 524 No. 4

Written Answers. - County Dublin Transport Plan.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

30 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the reason that the cost of the Dublin transport initiative announced on 3 October 2000 has escalated from £8 billion to £15 billion; the timescale for the various elements of the plan; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [22485/00]

I refer the Deputy to my reply to Priority Question No. 2 which I answered earlier.

The initial estimate of £8.5 billion was presented to the Cabinet sub-committee in April this year. These were preliminary costs as a full costing exercise had not been completed at that time. In particular the estimate did not include VAT at an average rate of 15%, land costs or fees and was based on 1999 prices. Some further changes were also added. These include the extension of the METRO to Swords, public transport depots and extra rolling stock. In addition, costs have been revised to 2000 prices.
