348 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Health and Children the steps he will take to provide a car travel allowance to home helps who have to travel beyond a specified minimum number of miles daily in order to assist and provide the home help required; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Minister for Health and Children (Mr. Martin):

My Department has issued an agreement on pay and conditions with regard to home helps this month. Under this agreement, a car travel allowance is available to home helps. This allowance, which is to be payable on an annual basis, is effective from the 1 June 2000, and has been agreed with home helps' representatives.
