Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

381 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the reason contract documents submitted by Mayo County Council for the extension of the Lough Mask regional water supply scheme in 1987 have not yet been approved; the nature of the problem in having approval given; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23021/00]

I understand the Deputy is referring to the extension of the Lough Mask regional water supply scheme to Shrule and Kilmaine. I refer to the reply to Question No. 711 of 3 October 2000.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

382 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the position on the provision of proper sewerage works and a treatment plant at Knock Airport, County Mayo; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23022/00]

A preliminary report on a water and sewerage scheme to serve an industrial park at Knock International Airport was received by my Department from Mayo County Council last December. As the cost of providing new water and sewerage facilities solely to service non-domestic activity must, in accordance with polluter pays policy, be fully financed by that sector, these proposals could not be included for funding under the Department's water services investment programme. Mayo County Council has been informed accordingly and of possible alternatives for advancing the proposals in accordance with polluter pays principles.
