Vol. 524 No. 5

Written Answers. - Harbours and Piers.

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

177 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the works that have been carried out since 1997 in Greencastle Harbour, County Donegal; the work programme for work currently pending; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23039/00]

In the period 1997 to 1999 my Department undertook, at Greencastle, on behalf of Donegal County Council, repairs to sheet piles, construction of an anchor wall, laying of a new deck and the provision of pier furniture and services.

A major development plan for Greencastle, involving an investment of £3 million, was announced earlier this year. Tenders have been invited for the appointment of consultant engineers to evaluate the options for design of the project and to prepare detailed designs. Tenders for a site investigation for the proposed breakwater have been received and are being examined in my Department, and it is expected that this contract will be awarded shortly. It is anticipated at this stage that the development works at Greencastle will commence during 2001.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

178 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when a grant of £60,000 for the construction of Bunaneer slipway in Annascaul, County Kerry, announced on 22 June 2000, will be confirmed to Kerry County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23040/00]

My Department has been advised by Kerry County Council that they are not in a position to proceed with the Bunaneer slipway project in the current year, due to substantial coast protection works currently under way in the area. However, I understand that the local authority will be in a position to undertake the slipway project in 2001. The provision of grant aid for the project will, therefore, be addressed in the context of the fishery harbours development programme for 2001.
