Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Alan Shatter

Ceist:

289 Mr. Shatter asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the appointment of consultants to prepare the necessary plans to replace the dilapidated prefabs currently in use in Knocklyon Primary School, Dublin 22 by the construction of permanent additional classrooms for both junior and senior infants; if he will further provide for the necessary additional rooms for children with special needs and who require remedial teaching; if he will provide a library for the school; if he will provide the required administrative offices and a new playground area; and his views on whether the facilities presently in use at the school are grossly inadequate to provide for the needs of the 1,500 pupils attending it and the basic requirements of all of those teaching at the school. [23615/00]

An application for additional accommodation by Knocklyon senior and junior primary schools is currently being processed and will be dealt with as quickly as possible having regard to the large volume of such projects on hands.

As soon as a technical assessment has been undertaken of the schools' needs, my Department will be in contact with the school authorities to indicate the level of additional accommodation to be provided.
