Vol. 524 No. 6

Written Answers. - Milk Quota.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

105 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development the reason a person (details supplied) in County Cork was refused an allocation of milk quota in the context of the recent restructuring scheme despite being aged under 35, having a quota of less than 35,000 gallons, having a qualification in engineering from an institute of technology and having completed a 150 hour Teagasc certificate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23264/00]

I presume that the Deputy is referring to the scheme under which five million gallons of quota were allocated to younger milk producers with effect from 1 April 2000.

Following the allocation of the 20 million gallons available under Agenda 2000 by way of the 15 million gallon scheme for smaller scale producers and the five million gallon scheme for younger farmers, I announced an appeals procedure for those producers who failed to qualify for an allocation under the two schemes. The person named has submitted an application under this appeal system and it was considered recently by the milk quota appeals tribunal along with all other appeal applications.

The person in question will be notified of the outcome of his appeal.
