Vol. 525 No. 1

Written Answers. - Departmental Appointments.

Denis Naughten

Ceist:

170 Mr. Naughten asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when the Human Rights Commission will be established; when it will be available to receive complaints from the general public; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23695/00]

I refer to my earlier reply of 3 October 2000, Parliamentary Question No. 929, concerning appointments to the Human Rights Commission.

The selection committee has just completed its work in drawing up a list of suitable candidates for consideration by the Government for appointment to the Human Rights Commission. I expect that those appointments will be made shortly. Once certain necessary administrative matters are finalised, the way will be clear for me to make the required order establishing the commission, in accordance with section 3 of the Human Rights Commission Act, 2000.
