Vol. 525 No. 1

Request to move Adjournment of Dáil under Standing Order 31.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a notice of motion under Standing Order 31 from Deputy Jim Higgins. I call on the Deputy to state his matter.

(Mayo): I wish to seek the Adjournment of the Dáil under Standing Order 31 to discuss the following matter requiring urgent consideration, namely, the decision by 1,200 Aer Lingus clerical staff to withdraw their services tomorrow, leading to further widespread disruption of air travel over the bank holiday weekend, including numerous school trips to the Continent, and the failure of the Minister and the company to take meaningful measures to resolve the industrial relations difficulties besetting the company.

Having considered the matter fully I do not consider it to be contemplated by Standing Order 31 and, therefore, I cannot grant leave to move the motion.

There will be nothing moving in the country when the Minister for Public Enterprise is finished.
