Written Answers. - Inflation Rate.
I am mindful of the difficulties caused by inflation particularly for people on low and fixed incomes. I want to assure the Deputy that the forthcoming budget will contain a balanced set of measures which will take account of prevailing economic conditions and which will be positive in terms of continued economic and social development. The budget will also have regard to the commitments in the Programme for Prosperity and Fairness and in An Action Programme for the Millennium.
The Deputy will appreciate that, at this stage I am not prepared to elaborate further on what measures may be contained in the budget.
