Ceist:

33 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Finance his views on the report of the Committee of Public Accounts Sub-Committee dealing with the Revenue Commissioners; if he will implement the recommendations of the report, particularly the suggestion that legislation should be introduced to establish a new governing board with three non-executive directors; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Austin Deasy

Ceist:

70 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Finance if he has any plans to re-organise the Revenue Commissioners to ensure the inefficiencies which have shown up through the DIRT inquiry by the Dáil Committee of Public Accounts will not recur; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23629/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 33 and 70 together.

I set up a steering group to carry out a review of the Office of the Revenue Commissioners consequent on the Committee of Public Accounts, Public Account Committee, Sub-Committee on Certain Revenue Matters Parliamentary Inquiry into DIRT First Report. The report of the review, which was noted by Government, was submitted to the Committee of Public Accounts Sub-Committee on 1 September and was published by it on 5 September. The sub-committee also sought submissions on the report through public advertisements in the national newspapers which were placed by my Department at its request. The sub-committee will examine the report on 30 November 2000.

I am currently considering the report and will consider any recommendations made by the sub-committee before I submit proposals to Government.
