57 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for Finance if he has satisfied himself with the external value of the euro; if he will state Government policy on the strength of the euro; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23638/00]

76 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Finance his views on recent remarks made by the Governor of the European Central Bank on the bank's reluctance to intervene to support the value of the euro in certain circumstances; if he has raised his concerns at ECOFIN; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 107 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Finance the current strength of the euro; his views on whether the euro should reflect the strong economic strength of the European Union; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23676/00]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 57, 76 and 107 together.

As Minister for Finance, I have not commented in the past on either the Irish pound exchange rate or the euro exchange rate and I do not now propose to make any specific comment on the euro exchange rate.

The European Central Bank, enjoys complete independence in relation to monetary policy. I do not propose to make any comment on the monetary policy stance or monetary policy statements of members of the Governing Council of the ECB.
