A total of £236,530 was dispersed to Irish missionaries and non-governmental organisations in Uganda in 1999. The activities funded included community and rural development projects, provision of primary health care, water supply, sanitation and education and training. A detailed breakdown of the projects funded can be found in the Ireland Aid annual report for 1999, which is available in the Dáil library. In addition, £7,548,007 was expended under the Irish Govern ment's programme of development co-operation with Uganda.
Some £560,163 has been committed to Irish missionaries and non-governmental organisations in Uganda in 2000 to date. This represents an increase of 136.8% on the 1999 figure. In addition, over £9.6 million has been committed under the Irish Government's programme of development co-operation with Uganda in 2000. These figures represent a very significant increase in the development aid budget for Uganda and they clearly demonstrate Ireland's commitment to building a vibrant and strong development partnership with Uganda. A clear indication of the growing relationship with Uganda was the recent successful State visit to Ireland of the President of the Republic of Uganda, His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
