Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Travellers' Caravans.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

717 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans he has to restrict the numbers of travellers' caravans which can be parked in any one location due to the difficulties such caravans create for local communities. [24845/00]

Section 32 of the Housing (Traveller Accommodation) Act, 1998, provides local authorities with new and improved powers to deal with incidences of unauthorised Traveller encampments on public land and on the roadside. The purpose of these provisions is to protect residents in Traveller accommodation and those resident in the vicinity of that accommodation. It is a matter for each local authority to ensure that these laws continue to be enforced.
