Vol. 525 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Lawlor

Ceist:

914 Mr. Lawlor asked the Minister for Education and Science if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 272 of 10 October 2000, he will direct his officials to include another general parents room in the design for the Lucan Educate Together national school to complement the parents room designated for the use of parents of children in the autistic unit which is to be incorporated into the permanent school building. [24662/00]

As I indicated in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 272 of 10 October 2000, the accommodation brief for the Lucan Educate Together national school was drawn up in accordance with the revised planning guidelines for primary schools, a copy of which was given to the school authorities at the initiation of architectural planning. I have been assured by my officials that the accommodation being provided is more than adequate to cater for the needs of the school. Accordingly, my Department does not propose to depart from the brief as set out.

The revised planning guidelines were drawn up following extensive consideration of every aspect of the accommodation needs of schools and these guidelines are being applied to all new schools and major extensions.
