176 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Health and Children if he has received the position paper of 1 October 2000 from Parents of Autistic Children Together outlining the needs of children with autism; if so, his response to the position paper; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I recently received the paper mentioned by the Deputy relating to the needs of children with autism in the Eastern Regional Health Authority area. The paper outlines both the educational and health related support services required by these children and their families.
Given the number of issues raised in the paper, I propose to address them in a detailed manner in my reply to the members of PACT, a copy of which I will forward to the Deputy. However, I assure both the Deputy and the parents in question that the Government is committed to the ongoing development of support services for persons with autism.
