Vol. 526 No. 1

Written Answers. - Traffic Fines.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

262 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the total receipts arising from on-the-spot fines for motoring offences in each of the past five years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26067/00]

I wish to inform the Deputy that the information requested can not be compiled within the time available, however, I will communicate further with the Deputy when the information is to hand.

I should state that certain details in relation to the number of fines on the spot issued are set out in the annual report of An Garda Síochána, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The latest annual report is in respect of 1999.

I should also state that fines on the spot for motoring offences are also issued by local authorities. Details in relation to these offences are not available to my Department.

Ceist:

264 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the reason for the delay in the provision of a Garda station at Leixlip, County Kildare; if an agreement has yet been reached in relation to this issue; if so, the nature of such agreement; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26069/00]

I can confirm to the Deputy that it is proposed to build a new Garda station at Leixlip. The Office of Public Works has been asked by my Department to acquire a suitable site and that process is ongoing. When a site is purchased detailed planning for the scheme will commence.
