Vol. 526 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

98 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress which has been made on policing issues in north Clondalkin, Dublin 22 since his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 247 of 7 March 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [23447/00]

I am informed by the Garda authorities who are responsible for the detailed allocation of personnel and resources to individual areas that the policing of north Clondalkin is the responsibility of Ronanstown Garda station.

I am also informed by the Garda authorities that the personnel strength of Ronanstown Garda station has increased by one sergeant and four gardaí since March 2000. The deployment of resources at Ronanstown is also constantly reviewed by local Garda management.
I am also informed by the Garda authorities that these extra resources are deployed on flexi tours which cover the periods of peak demands on resources and they are also used to combat public order offences and to patrol areas where problems exist with drug dealing. I am further informed by the Garda authorities that the deployment of these additional resources has given a higher Garda visibility on the street.
