Vol. 526 No. 3

Written Answers. - Flood Relief.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

237 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will have investigations made into the altered route of the Alleghaun River which is a tributary of the River Feale at a location (details supplied) in County Limerick; and if his attention has been drawn to the concerns of the landowners in this area and the flooding hazards it has created owing to the wall having collapsed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [26780/00]

The Feale catchment drainage scheme was carried out by the Commissioners of Public Works under the Arterial Drainage Act, 1945. The commissioners are responsible for its maintenance.

The area in question was visited by the Office of Public Works engineer who found that the stretch of channel mentioned by the Deputy is outside the Feale catchment area. The commissioners, therefore, have no responsibility for its maintenance.
