55 Mr. M. Ahern asked the Minister for Defence the total amount of expenditure by his Department on accommodation/refurbishment for the Defence Forces in the years 1995 to 1997, and 1998 to 2000; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27091/00]
The total amount of expenditure on building projects and maintenance works which include new-refurbished accommodation projects for the years 1995, 1996 and 1997 was £34.15 million. The allocation for 2000 is expected to be fully expended and this will bring total expenditure for 1998, 1999 and 2000 to £49.38 million.
I am fully committed to the ongoing development of accommodation facilities throughout the Defence Forces, and improvements will continue to be carried out in the light of competing demands and availability of financial resources. Projected expenditure for the years 2001 to 2003 is £99 million in respect of the enhancement of accommodation and facilities generally.
