Vol. 526 No. 6

Written Answers. - Waste Management.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

319 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals he has to amend the Waste Management Act, 1996, to ensure that it shall not preclude urban district councils from making applications for extension to the capacity of the landfill sites within their area where such landfill sites were in operation at the time of the passing of the Act; if the amendment of the Act will allow urban district councils apply to the EPA for extension of the capacity of the landfill operations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [27522/00]

I am keeping under review the need for an amendment to the Waste Management Act, 1996, to facilitate expansion, by an urban district council, of an existing landfill facility to extend its use in the context of effective regional waste management.
