183 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education and Science the actions he will take to ensure compliance with the EU directive on pro-rata pay rates for part-time teachers; the operative date for compliance with this directive; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28871/00]

The EU directive on part-time work requires national legislation to bring it into effect. This legislation is currently being prepared by the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment. My Department will implement the provisions of that legislation when enacted.
