Vol. 527 No. 4

Written Answers. - Defence Forces Equipment.

Willie Penrose

Ceist:

76 Mr. Penrose asked the Minister for Defence the procedures that have been put in place to ensure that counterfeit aircraft parts are not purchased by the Air Corps, having regard to the recent case that came to light; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28702/00]

The acquisition of aviation spare parts is delegated to the Air Corps. I understand that before any supplier of such parts is approved by the Air Corps a very extensive check is carried out to ensure that the spare parts are acceptable and conform to the necessary standards.

The Air Corps are happy with their current procedures which were reviewed when they were informed of the recent investigation into a company in the Shannon area. The Air Corps had no direct dealings with that company.
