Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - Health Services.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

83 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will introduce an annual health check up for every adult and every child. [28763/00]

It is not clear from the Deputy's question what type of annual health check-ups he has in mind. There is a wide range of programmes currently in place designed to promote and protect health. These include regular check-ups carried out on young babies and children and the primary and booster immunisation programmes. In addition, the first phases of the national screening programmes for cervical and breast cancer have been introduced.

A general practitioner secondary prevention pilot programme for those already identified at risk of developing heart disease is at an advanced stage of planning in the context of the implementation of the cardiovascular health strategy.

Question No. 84 taken with Question No. 48.
