Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - Hospital Waiting Lists.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

173 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Health and Children if he will arrange an immediate appointment for a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny who is waiting since February 1997 for an operation in Our Lady's Hospital for Sick Children, Crumlin, Dublin 12; and if he will make a statement on the delay in this particular case. [29167/00]

The provision of medical treatment to eligible persons is, in this instance, the statutory responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. My Department has asked the regional chief executive of the board to investigate the position in relation to this case and reply to the Deputy directly.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

174 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Health and Children if, further to parliamentary Questions Nos. 292 and 293 of 28 November 2000, he will stress the urgency of the subject matter of both questions to the chief executive of the Eastern Regional Health Authority in view of a recent inquest (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29168/00]

The provision of services in this instance is the responsibility of the Eastern Regional Health Authority. I understand from the authority that Question No. 293 of 28 November did not relate to the person referred to by the Deputy in today's question. I have asked the authority for a report in the latter case and I will contact the Deputy when that report is available.

I also understand that the Eastern Regional Health Authority has provided a reply to the Deputy in respect of parliamentary Question No. 293 of 28 November 2000 and that a reply in respect of parliamentary Question No. 292 will issue to the Deputy today.
