Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

224 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the proposal by Kilkenny VEC to progress works for a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny as a single project which would prove more cost effective than the piecemeal process at present being operated; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29020/00]

My Department's planning and building unit is currently dealing with applications dating from 1997 to 2000 from County Kilkenny VEC for various capital works at the school to which the Deputy refers.

Additional information, including estimated costs, has been sought from County Kilkenny VEC on some of the works in question. When my Department receives this information, full consideration will be given to progressing all of the necessary works in the most cost-effective way possible.

Ceist:

225 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Education and Science if progress has been made with the design teams within his Department and Kilkenny Vocational Education Committee towards the provision of works to a school (details supplied) in County Kilkenny; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29022/00]

My Department's planning and building unit is currently processing applications from County Kilkenny VEC for various capital works at the school to which the Deputy refers.

My Department is exploring with the VEC the possibility of combining some of the individual projects into one composite project. Such an approach is likely to expedite the planning processes and represent greater efficiency.
