Vol. 527 No. 5

Written Answers. - General Practitioner Services.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

57 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children his response to the call by the ICGP for a review of general practitioner manpower training; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [28905/00]

Officials of my Department met representatives of the Irish College of General Practitioners on Wednesday, 15 November 2000 at which a range of issues affecting general practice, including manpower training, was discussed.

In this regard, I should add that I have very recently received the wide-ranging review of general practitioner services undertaken by the chief executive officers of the health boards. When I have considered that review, it is my intention to initiate comprehensive discussions with relevant representative organisations, including the Irish College of General Practitioners, on the future development of general practice, and, in that context, those consultations will also have regard to the joint ICGP/IMO paper on general practice development.
