196 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Health and Children the cost of running the Western Health Board ambulance service in 1999 and 2000 to date; the number of miles covered by the ambulance service for the same period; the average cost per mile to the Western Health Board in providing the ambulance service for 1999 and 2000; the amount paid by the Western Health Board to private ambulance operators for any services rendered in 1999 and 2000; the number of private patients transported by Western Health Board ambulance service in 1999 and 2000; the amount of revenue accruing to the Western Health Board ambulance service as a result of charges to patients transported by the service in 1999-2000; the number of personnel working as EMTs in the Western Health Board ambulance service in 1999-2000; if all staff working as EMTs in the Western Health Board ambulance service are fully qualified; if not, the training procedures in place to ensure that all personnel are fully qualified; the number of employees dismissed from the Western Health Board ambulance service in the past five years; if the 1997 working time directive has been implemented by the Western Health Board ambulance service; if so, the date the directive became effective within the Western Health Board area; the total amount of wages and salaries paid to EMTs in the Western Health Board ambulance service in 1999-2000; the total amount of overtime payments made to EMTs of the Western Health Board ambulance service in 1999-2000; the mission statement of the Western Health Board ambulance service; his views on the level of service currently being provided; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The issues raised by the Deputy are the responsibility in the first instance of the Western Health Board. I have, therefore, advised the chief executive of the board to look into these matters and reply directly to the Deputy as a matter urgency.
