200 Mr. G. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if his Department is monitoring the progress in relation to the Medical Council inquiry into the conduct of a hospital consultant (details supplied); and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29326/00]
Inquiries by the Medical Council are carried out in the context of the council's statutory functions as set out in the 1978 Medical Practitioners Act and my Department has no function in the matter. I would like to assure the Deputy that con sideration will be given to any issues which may emanate from the medical council's inquiry in this case.
