Ceist:73 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number of tests carried out to date since the commencement of operations by the national car testing service in January 2000; the number of cars which passed the test; the number subsequently presented for re-test which passed; the cost of such tests and retests; the total income to date from such test and re-test fees; the amounts claimed by the Department to date; the use to which such moneys have been put; if moneys will be made available to local authorities to assist in the disposal of end of life vehicles which fail the test; and if, in view of the complaints which have been received to date regarding car tests, he will take steps to set up an independent procedure for the hearing of appeals against the results of such tests bearing in mind that in such circumstances an appeal to the courts is not a realistic proposition.
