Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Primary Medical Certificate Scheme.

John McGuinness

Ceist:

109 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Finance the status of the review of the primary medical certificate scheme; if a new scheme will be announced shortly; if the present scheme will be expanded; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [30125/00]

It is understood that this question refers to the disabled drivers and disabled passengers tax relief scheme.

As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the scheme is under review by an interdepartmental group which is chaired by an official from the Department of Justice, Equality and Law Reform. I understand that over 250 written submissions were received by the review group and that oral submissions were heard by the group over a three day period in early May 2000 and over a two and a half day period in September 2000. These submissions will help inform the group in its deliberations. I have received no definite date for completion of the group's report.

It would be imprudent of me to consider any amendments to the scheme until such time as the review is completed and its content is given due consideration.
