Vol. 528 No. 3

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Dan Neville

Ceist:

225 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform when a child care grant will be paid to a community group (details supplied) in County Limerick. [30154/00]

An application for a staffing grant for community based-not-for-profit group(s) under my Department's equal opportunities child care programme 2000 to 2006 was received from the community group in question on 4 December 2000.

This application for funding was forwarded to Area Development Management Limited on 7 December for a technical assessment, which may involve site visits or meetings. The application will then be considered by the Equal Opportunities Childcare Programme Appraisal Committee chaired by my Department.

The assessment criteria include the extent to which the project will increase the number of childcare places in disadvantaged areas, the quality and financial sustainability of the proposal as well as the capacity of the service provider to implement the project.

As the application from this Limerick based community group is currently going through the assessment process, it would be premature of me to comment further on the application at this stage. However, once the appraisal process has been completed, I will issue a decision shortly thereafter.
