Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Foreshore Licences.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

201 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the reason a foreshore licence sought by Cork County Council for the protection of the Warren Beach at Rosscarbery, County Cork has not yet issued; when this will issue; and if the funding, which had been sanctioned in the past for coastal erosion work and deferred due to an objection by Dúchas, will now be made available since the Dúchas position has been resolved. [1818/01]

I approved the granting of a foreshore lease to Cork County Council for the proposed works on 11 August 2000 and the matter was referred to the Office of the Chief State Solicitor for completion on 28 August 2000. The solicitor charged with acting on my Department's behalf forwarded a draft lease for approval by my Department's officials on 24 January 2001 and an engrossed lease was forwarded for execution to Cork County Council on 25 January 2001. Upon return of the executed lease from the council arrangements will be made to finalise the matter.

Taking account of the imminent resolution of the foreshore issues involved, I will review the matter of funding for coast protection works at The Warren, Rosscarbery.
