Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ring – the action being taken in relation to health boards who received nursing home subvention payments from patients, and the plans there are to return this money to the families involved; (2) Deputy Kirk – the need to raise with the British Government the issue of the storage of depleted uranium in a high security compound at Sellafield; (3) Deputy Perry – the need for a feasibility study on the possible re-opening of the Collooney to Claremorris railway line as part of the Sligo to Limerick route; (4) Deputy Gay Mitchell – the need for the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands to enter into discussions with Dublin Corporation regarding the possible acquisition of the old Rowntree-Mackintosh site in Dublin 8; (5) Deputy Michael Kitt – the withdrawal of the Tuam to Dublin coach service; (6) Deputy Michael Moynihan – the refurbishment works proposed for Kiskeam national school in County Cork; (7) Deputy Durkan – the treatment of a group of Moldovan emigrant workers who had entered this country legally last week; (8) Deputy Stagg – the case of 19 Moldovan workers who were jailed for several days despite arriving in this country with visas and work permits, and the need for the Government to consider compensation for their treatment; (9) Deputy Sean Ryan – the crisis on the rail network in Dublin, particularly on the northern suburban line, which cannot cope with the demands of the travelling public; (10) Deputy Stanton – the need to provide funding for the Christian Brothers secondary school, Midleton, County Cork for urgent refurbishment and further development works; (11) Deputy Gilmore – the impact of the work being carried out by Iarnród Éireann at Killiney Beach, County Dublin; (12) Deputy Howlin – the issues arising from the Carty report into allegations of serious irregularities involving members of the Garda Síochána in County Donegal; (13) Deputy O'Shea – the need to provide a new primary school in Cappoquin in view of the substandard condition of the existing national schools; (14) Deputy Jim Higgins – the imminent closure of Henniges Car Components factory in Ballina, County Mayo with the loss of 220 jobs; and (15) Deputy Sargent – the need to formulate a policy to deal with BSE based on the latest scientific evidence available.

The matters raised by Deputies Jim Higgins, Sargent, Durkan and Stagg have been selected for discussion.
