Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Tax Rebates.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

477 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Finance if a person (details supplied) in County Carlow will qualify for rebate of stamp duty on the transfer of a farm. [1416/01]

I am informed by the Revenue Commissioners that the exemption from stamp duty under the young trained farmer scheme which was provided for in the Finance Act, 2000, only applies to qualified applicants in respect of instruments of transfer executed on or after 1 January 2000. Before that date the relief from stamp duty for qualified applicants in respect of instruments of transfer under the young trained farmer scheme amounted to a reduction of two thirds of the stamp duty that otherwise would be payable. As the farm in question was transferred in January 1999, an entitlement to a rebate of duty paid by reference to the Finance Act, 2000, does not arise.
