Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Brian O'Shea

Ceist:

779 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the proposals he has to extend and upgrade the public water supply in Dunmore East, County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1136/01]

A proposal for water supply improvements in Dunmore East was included, but not as a high priority, in the list of water and sewerage schemes submitted by Waterford County Council in response to the Department's request to local authorities to undertake a fresh assessment of the needs for capital works in their areas and to prioritise their proposals on the basis of the assessments. The priority lists were taken into account in the framing of the water services investment programme, 2000-02, announced last July. Given the priority afforded to the scheme by the council, the level of compet ing demand and the funding available, it was not possible to include it in the programme at that time.

The provision of an upgraded sewerage system for Dunmore East is being progressed, with six other sewerage schemes in County Waterford, as part of a grouped design, build and operate project. Waterford County Council recently appointed consultants to prepare a preliminary report for all seven schemes.
