Vol. 529 No. 1

Written Answers. - School Placement.

John Perry

Ceist:

1153 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Education and Science, further to parliamentary Question No. 164 of 9 November 2000, the progress that has been made on the enrolment of a person in the school concerned; if he will provide an outline of the communications that have taken place; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1095/01]

The pupil referred to by the Deputy has been attending a special school in Sligo since January 2001.

The local schools' inspector has met the child's parents to discuss his needs. The child's parents are anxious that he be placed in a special class attached to his local primary school. The special class currently attached to this school is full at present. However, the inspector is pursuing the possibility of establishing a second special class to cater for the child in question and other special needs children in the area.
