1223 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will sanction the appointment of a second resource teacher for persons (details supplied) in County Waterford; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [1920/01]
The application referred to by the Deputy has recently been received by my Department and concerns the allocation of a resource teacher for Traveller pupils in the school in question.
My Department's inspectorate has reviewed the needs of all Traveller pupils in the area concerned and has recommended a reorganisation of the delivery of this service to the schools in question. As a consequence, I am pleased to inform the Deputy that an additional resource teacher for Travellers post has been sanctioned for one of the schools in question. Officials of my Department will be in contact with the relevant school authorities to advise them of the details in the very near future.
