Vol. 529 No. 2

Written Answers. - Sports Funding.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

159 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, in view of the extra funding available to him, he has received sufficient requests from the various sporting and recreational organisations here to utilise in full the funds at his disposal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2725/01]

My Department operates two schemes aimed at assisting in the development of sport and recreational facilities throughout the country, the sports capital programme and the local authority swimming pool programme. I am satisfied, based on many years' experience, that there will be sufficient demand from sport and recreational organisations as well as local authorities to fully and effectively use the funds available.

Ceist:

160 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation his proposals to upgrade sporting and recreational facilities here with the objective of ensuring the facilities are widely available and acceptable; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2727/01]

Ceist:

161 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has any plans to ensure that recreational facilities are made more widely and readily available here with particular reference to the need to facilitate both passive and active requirements; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2728/01]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 160 and 161 together.

Conditions for the receipt of funding under my Department's sports capital programme and the local authority swimming pool programme includes requirements relating to accessibility for the local community.
