Vol. 529 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

Michael Creed

Ceist:

102 Mr. Creed asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Rural Development when a person (details supplied) in County Cork will receive payment of suckler cow and reactor hardship grants. [2693/01]

The person named submitted an application for 14 cows under the 2000 suckler cow premium scheme on 31 May 2000. One of these cows died inside the retention period of the scheme. As the person named failed to notify my Department of the death of this animal he was advised by letter on 27 November 2000 that no payment would issue on this animal and that a reduction penalty of 7.14% would apply to payment on the remaining eligible animals in accordance with clause 29 of the terms and conditions governing the scheme. He was given the opportunity to have this decision reviewed. He wrote to my Department on 13 December 2000 and his explanation for failure to notify the death was accepted.

In addition there are further queries outstanding in relation to the status of two other animals on the claim. The person named was advised of this situation by letter of 29 January 2001 and he has been asked to provide clarification. When a reply is received his claim will be processed without delay and any entitlement established will be paid.

The first hardship grant payment amounting to £200 for the period 27 December to 26 January 2001 is currently being processed for payment by the local district veterinary office. Payment should issue shortly.
