Vol. 529 No. 4

Written Answers. - Tobacco Advertising Restrictions.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

175 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Health and Children the plans he has for further restrictions on tobacco advertising further Parliamentary Question No. 598 of 30 January 2001. [3148/01]

A new Tobacco Bill is being drafted in my Department which will, among other things, provide for further restrictions on tobacco advertising particularly with regard to in-store advertising and promotion of tobacco products. The marketing practices of the tobacco industry target young people. I am committed to ensuring that children and young people, in particular, are protected from commercial exploitation by the tobacco industry.
